ABSTRACT

The River Regulation Model (RRM) was developed as a cooperative Federal-Provincial effort for the operation of the Ottawa River and its tributaries. It is a generalized model and can be applied as is or with slight modifications to other river systems.
RRM has the capability of including recreational and environmental constraints on river flows and reservoir levels anywhere in a river system. Furthermore, it can be used to determine the effect of these constraints on other user interests, e.g., energy, navigation, logging, low water flows, etc. This paper exemplifies these capabilities of the model.
Water-resource planners and managers can use this model as a valuable tool to deal effectively and efficiently with recreational and environmental issues and/or conflicts related to river systems.
